Funny things my kids have said...

I know I am a mommy and I think my kids say the funniest things!!  We all do right.  Mom's especially think their kids are the funniest people in the world!!  So here are my top 11 moments that I THINK they are too funny!  Share funny things your kids have said!

1. My kids use to say geese were flying when they tooted. So we are at Wal-Mart and....
TanMan says (3 years old): "Mom, did you hear that? Geese just flew out of that girls butt!"

Yeah, we don't use that phrase anymore in our house.

2. Also at Wal-Mart.  We were standing in line and my 4 year old was standing on the back of the cart.
TanMan says: "That lady is so lucky to have a butt as big and soft as a pillow!"

3. I have used the phrase "I lied" a few too many times when correcting myself.  For example "Its 1:00.. never mind I lied it is 1:15" I learned that really isn't the best wording to be used all the time because this is what your kids say the next time you say it out in public!
Moose says: "It is ok mom, you lie all the time!"
Oh that sounds great coming from your kiddos.  So now I do not correct myself by starting it off with that phrase.  OOPPS!

4. Loved this...
TanMan says: "Mom, I am so glad that you are my mom.  You are really the best mom. If I had another mom I think they would yell at me all the time.  She probably would make me clean a lot more too."

Hmm...So I guess I am either too easy on him or he does more wrong than I see.  Love it.

5. I hear a loud noise from the bathroom. So of course I yell "ARE YOU OK!?"
Moose says: "I am OK now I just had to scare myself, so I could get rid of my hiccups."

Then he paused and got the biggest smile on his face and said...
"I did it...awesome!"
Wow...that is a little weird don't you think?

6. We went and saw the Ronald McDonald Magic Show.  Afterwards we got to talk to Ronald.  He told m oldest that he looked like a wrestler.  Later in the car my kiddo goes...
TanMan says: "I can't believe he thought I was a wrestler....Wait he must   have seen these knuckles!"

He looks at his knuckles, kisses them and says...
"Yeah they look tough."

7. Driving into town one day the boys were making duck noises in the backseat.

My oldest says: "This is so cool mom! Do you think anyone has ever thought of this sound?"
I told him:"Hun I am pretty sure the show Duck Dynasty is all about those good ole duck sounds!"

Then my youngest says: "Mom I think this is a new one...why aren't you writing this stuff down. You’re going to be missing out on your part of our millions by just driving and not helping us out and writing this stuff down!"

My oldest says: "I think we will have to grow beards then....hmmm"

Then my youngest demands: "Mom you’re not writing these noises down."

Wow...what can I say these boys got some big dreams! I know this makes their father proud.  Puzzles me!

8.  We had to put one of my childhood dogs down.  My mom called with the news. I got off the phone and had to tell the boys.  I explained to them what was happening.  They both started to cry.

My youngest so innocently says: "But he is the only dog that likes me over there"

Poor thing.  Because my youngest is so fast moving and my mom's dogs are only about 5lbs each, if that.  So having a fast moving child around is a little scary for them so they growl at him all the time.  Speedy was so go with the flow that he just loved everyone!!  My poor kid!  Such an innocent but funny comment!

9.  My youngest always has big questions.  But he is also very gullible.  This was a dinner conversation we had one night....

"Dad, my ear has stuff that comes out of it sometimes. What is it?"

Dad:   "Just drainage!"
Moose: "What is that?"

Dad:   "Well, it is when your brain leaks."

Moose: "Will that make me less smart?"

Dad:   "Sometimes."

Moose: "hmmm"

Me:    "Moose don't believe that. It is just drainage from your ear. Like water. Your brain is not leaking!"

Gotta love entertainment at the dinner table!

10.  Another dinner story.  My youngest likes to talk.  I am not sure who he gets that from!!  OK, maybe it is me!  Anyways, this meal he seemed to be talking way more than he was eating.  My oldest was on round two of dinner and Moose was still working on the first 1/2 of plate one.  Here is where the conversation goes real quick.

"Moose you are talking way to much tonight. Stop talking and Eat."

Moose: "But aren't humans supposed to talk?"

TanMan: "Good Point!"

Dad:   "Eat!"

I love my boys!

11. My youngest once again made a very good point.  He was playing an XBOX game.  It was a two player game so he was playing with one control and the other controller was sitting next to him.

Me:  "
Moose, how fair is it that? Playing a two player game and that controller is just sitting there! REALLY?"

"Who am I not being fair to?"

Speed Bumps

There are times as a mother you get so frustrated.  You don't understand why your kids did something or said something.  I know I was faced with a situation that baffled me completely.  A child of mine did something that I was not expecting and felt I have taught them better.  For all of those people that are like oohhh what did her kid do....he made fun of someones disability and that is not ok.  He knows that and I know that.  He wrote a letter of apology, asked God for forgiveness.  We faced the little speed bump and then I was and am convinced that that speed bump will no longer be an issue.

Moments that bring what I like to call speed bumps are moments that slow you down.  They make you  reteach things and recalculate how to go about things.  But these speed bumps are not always bad.  Today my two kids did something that I am so very proud of.  On our way back to the car from a homecoming parade.  An older lady and her two grandchildren were on the sidewalk.  The lady just got up from a big fall that made them miss the parade.  The two kids were really worried about Grandma and I could tell they were trying to hide their disappointment in missing the parade.  TanMan asked me what happened.  I told him. Both Moose and TanMan turned around without even batting an eye, went up to those two kids and gave them all their candy.  TanMan poured an even amount in both of their bags and Moose convinced them they did not miss anything exciting.  I was overwhelmed with pride.  We got the lady and her grandchildren to her car which took a while but the boys had extra patience and they were great.

I really wanted to use this moment to teach these two boys to reach out and help others.  The boys realized how many people walked past them.  She could hardly stand on her own, leaning on her 3rd grade granddaughter.   This made them realize that helping people is ok.  That we as Christ followers are called to do so.  That we may have bad speed bumps and we will really mess things up but we need to get up, ask for forgiveness from the person we wronged and from God.  Then keep trying to put a smile on God's face and show people God's Love!!

Where were you?

Where were you 11 years ago tomorrow?

How about 8:46am, 9:03am, 9:37am, 10:03am, 10:28am, or even 5:20pm.  Those are just a few movements in this long day and days to come that changed America and people’s lives forever.

       · 8:46:30- Flight 11 crashes at roughly 466 mph into the north face of the North Tower (1 WTC) of the World Trade Center, between floors 93 and 99.

       · 9:03:02: Flight 175 crashes at about 590 mph into the south face of the South Tower of the World Trade Center banked between floors 77 and 85.

       · 9:37:46: Flight 77 crashes into the western side of the Pentagon at 530 mph and starts a violent fire.

       · 10:03:11: United Airlines Flight 93 is crashed by its hijackers and passengers at 583 mph due to fighting in the cockpit 80 miles southeast of Pittsburgh in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

·10:28:22: The North Tower of the World Trade Center collapse.

       · 5:20:33: 7 World Trade Center, also known as the Salomon Bros. Building, a 47-story building collapses.

I look at those times and those “main” events and I remember where I was.  I remember how I was feeling.  Sitting in my living room 893 miles away and life just stopped.  Everyone around me, everyone around the United States stopped.  Breathless, shock, panic, grief, helplessness, anger, pain, frustration, devastation are words that were expressed and felt by myself and those around me.

     · Almost 3,000 people lost their lives immediately.

     · 246 victims on the four planes
     · 2,606 in the World Trade Centers

     · 125 at the Pentagon
     · About 292 people were killed on the street level by falling objects/humans.

     · More than 90 countries lost citizens in the attacks  on the WTC.
O Highest lost
§ United Kingdom
§ Dominican Republic
§ India

     · Average age of victims 40 years young.
     · 8 children were victims
o 5 Americans on Flight 77 (ages 3 to 11)
o 3 Americans on Flight 175 (ages 2, 3,  and 4)

     · 343 NYC Firemen lost their lives

     · 37 Port Authority Police Officers lost their lives

     · 15 EMTs

I look at these numbers and I get sick to my stomach.  These men, woman and children lost their lives to a cowardly act.  These people will not be forgotten.

Life is so short and really is a gift.  Each day you get is a gift from God.  We are not promised a certain time.   These people along with the rest of the world became aware of that, even if they were not "directly" affected, they became aware.

Instead of feeling bitter and hate and sitting with anger what can we take from September 11, 2001?

1.   Overcome (prevail over, to master, to be victorious) Evil with Good
”Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good."
Rom. 12:21

I laughed when I read that…not because it is haha funny but I write this as it is easy!  ITS NOT!  You can’t do this all on your own but with God you can.

2.   Praise God

We can overcome this until we acknowledge God and what good He has done for us.

No, in all these things we are more than
 through him who loved us.
Rom. 8:37

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.   Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
I Cor. 15:57-58

3.   Outdo any conflict with His mighty power
            “Nothing is impossible with God.”
Luke 1:37

4.   Look past another’s fault.

We have to learn to be bigger than our problems.  With God you will accomplish this.  Forgiveness will take a heavy load of hostility off your shoulders.

             A person’s wisdom yields patience;
it is to one’s glory to overlook an  offense.

Proverbs 19:11

5.   Spill over with love, hope, joy and faith.

When you get yourself overflowing with the fruits of the spirit you will be replacing all negative with righteousness, faith and love.  Come closer to GOD.  Remember the fruits of the spirits.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23

6.   Allow God to work through you.

“I can do everything God asks me to do with the help of
Christ who gives me the strength and power.”
Phil. 4:13

7.   Give your worries, fears and problems to God.

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee:
he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Psalm 55:22

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
1 Peter 5:7

8.   We cannot be over critical of evil people.

You desire but do not have, so you kill.
You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight.
You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives,
that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship
with the world means enmity against God? Therefore,
anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
James 4:2-4

But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:
“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.
James 4:6

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil,
and he will flee from you.

James 4:7

9.   Don’t get your focus off balance

Sometimes you become so fixed on Evil that we can’t grow from it.

“Jesus continued to grow in wisdom,
stature and in favor with God and men.
Luke 2:52

10.               Don’t over search for answers.

We won’t get why things happen.  We may search for answers but end up at a dead end.  We need to trust that God has a plan and has nothing but the best for us in His plans.

“The secret things belong to the Lord our god, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever,
that we may follow all the words of this law.”
Deut 29:29

God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.    If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

Though I am surrounded by troubles, you will bring me safely through them. You will clench your fist against my angry enemies! Your power will save me. The Lord will work out His plans for my life -- for your loving-kindness, Lord, continues forever.
Don't abandon me -- for you made me.
Psalm 138: 7-8

We need to TRUST that God is Faithful and 11 years ago we may think He forgot us or fell asleep.  He didn’t!  He has plans for each and every one of us.  We need to trust Him and allow His plans and journey for us to be fulfilled.

So today...What are you doing?  Are we going to allow the anger and grief over take our lives or are we going to overcome this and allow God to overpower the evil in our lives?

School Shooting

Today was a day that I never thought would have happened.  We all say it, "That is so sad that happened, but it couldn't happen in our town!"  Well it did!  Early this morning a local high school had a code red.  This is a procedure they have practiced before and they know that this means the school is on lock down.  A school shooter is in the building.  A young, 14 year old, male had a gun and other weapons.  The students and teacher that were held hostage in this health room were HERO'S.  They kept it together and they acted when they needed to.  Shots were fired into the air but there were no injuries.  The teacher successfully brought down the child with the gun and ended a potential fatal day.

According to some of the people in the room this child was begging for someone to hear him.  Begging for someone to care.    They truly didn't think he wanted to hurt anyone just wanted to be heard.  Here is a link from an interview of a victim.

Also here is a link to some of the news coverage.

I am really just still sitting here so grateful for the outcome to this day.  A day that could have been devastating turned out the best it could given the situation.  I just wanted to reflect on a few parts of the day.

Students-  Seeing pictures and hearing the comments by Staff, Media and Community members these high school students came together and did better than I ever imagined.  A few glitches but how could that not happen.  1,833 high school students in the middle of an intense situation there is bound to be hiccups.  But those hiccups were so little.

Staff-  Remembering what to do and acting on it.  Being leaders and support for the students and parents.

Eastview Christian Church-  For opening their doors to these students, staff, parents and media.  I am so grateful to call this place my church home.  They are big enough to accommodate this big group of people, easily 5,000 people.  It was storming out this morning and would have been a miserable and impossible day if these students had to stay outside.  This  was also the staff at Eastview's normal day off they gathered in and helped in any way they could.

Police Officers- They acted and did their job with confidence and with courtesy of these children.

Media- Getting the right information out and constantly keeping families, friends and concerned community members in the loop.  They reported the facts and not the rumors.

Community Members- Volunteering, helping with the mass of people at Eastview.

Community Restaurants-  Feeding the students, volunteers, and staff.

God-  For being in the middle of this situation.  Things could have gone in so many different directions but there was calmness and order in the middle of a storm.  God had a hand in this and there was no luck a Mega Church open to use that day.  Woman and men that rely on God were there today to pray, listen and love on those kids.  God was and is there!!

Be strong and courageous.
Do not be afraid or terrified because of them,
for the LORD your God goes with you;
he will never leave you nor forsake you."

Deuteronomy 31:6

Have I not commanded you?
Be strong and courageous.
Do not be terrified;
do not be discouraged,
for the LORD your God will be
with you wherever you go."
Joshua 1:9

Immediately he spoke to them and said,
"Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."
Then he climbed into the boat with them,
and the wind died down.
They were completely amazed,
Mark 6:51

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed,
for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
 Isaiah 41:10

As for today when I went and picked up my kids and they asked what happened at NCHS and I had to tell them without scaring them.  But in the end I told them...love your classmates, listen to them, understand we are all different and that is ok.  Know that we could be that person that reaches out to someone that needs a friend.

My dear brothers, take note of this:
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,
James 1:19

And as you wish that others would
do to you
do so to them.Luke 6:31

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths,
but only such as is good for building up,
as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,
by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander
be put away from you, along with all malice.
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 4:29-32

“A new command I give you:
Love one another.
As I have loved you,
so you must love one another.

By this everyone will know that you are my disciples,
if you love one another.”
John 13:34-35

I end this with.....................

Look to the LORD and his strength;
seek his face always.
1 Chronicles 16:11
