Day Five: Tools for Digging: Praying the Scriptures

Day Five

Tools for Digging: Praying the Scriptures

Lisa boldly admits that at times when she is reading a book she just skips over a verse knowing she has read it before.  She wants us to make a pact and when we want to do that….STOP and go back and read that verse.

So let’s start with this verse:

“The word of God is living and active,
sharper than any two edged sword,
piercing to the division of soul and of spirit,
of joints and of marrow, and discerning the
thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12

God’s Word is ALIVE!!  That verse really is cool.  It shows us how powerful His word is.

Death and life are in the
 power of the tongue.
Proverbs 18:21

Lisa explains that when we speak Gods word we have the power to speak life.  When we pray we should talk out loud.  God did not think about creation He SPOKE it.  She also says that she feels it is easier to pray with faith when she can think of all the promises God has made.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday
and today and forever
Hebrews 13:8

So if He could do something in the bible He can do it in our lives today!

She also explains how she makes the Bible personal.  She likes to pray verses of Psalms.  Lisa will place her name as many times as she can in the verses.

Get index cards and place prayers on them for you and your family.  Keep them on you and look at them throughout the day.

Lisa wants us to read this scripture and then pray it out loud.  Make it a personal prayer…

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your
stand against the devil’s schemes.
For our struggle is not against flesh
and blood,
 but against the rulers,
against the authorities,
against the powers of this dark world and
against the spiritual forces
of evil in the heavenly realms.
Therefore put on the full armor of God,

so that when the day of evil comes,
you may be able to stand your ground,
and after you have done everything, to stand.
Stand firm then, with the belt
of truth buckled around your waist,

with the breastplate of righteousness in place,
and with your feet fitted with the readiness
that comes from the gospel of peace.

In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith,
with which you can extinguish
all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:10-17
