Why do we need to help those in need?  What does God say about this topic?

Happy are those who are concerned for the poor;
the Lord will help them when they are in trouble.

Psalm 41:1

If you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs
of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the
darkness and your gloom be like the noonday.

Isaiah 58:10

If you refuse to listen to the cry of the poor,
your own cry will not be heard.

Proverbs 21:13

God always keeps His promises; he judges in favor
of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry.

Psalm 146:6-7

Speak out for those who cannot speak, for the rights of all the destitute.
Defend the rights of the poor and needy,

Proverbs 31:8-9

Learn to do good; seek justice, rescue the oppressed,
defend the orphan, plead for the widow.

Isaiah 1:17

He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord
and he will repay him for his deed.

Proverbs 19:17

He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord
and he will repay him for his deed.
Proverbs 19:17

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also
ought to love one another.
1 John 4:9-11

"For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty,
and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me
into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing.
I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me."
Then these righteous ones will reply,
'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? And the King will tell them,
'I assure you, when you did it to one of the least of these
my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!'"
Matthew 25:31-40 NLT
